Italian economic mission to Turkey (1-4 May 2012)

“System Italy” is looking for new opportunities in Turkey. From 1 to 4 May 2012 the “Italy in Turkey” economic mission is taking place in Istanbul. The initiative was organised by the Italian Trade Institute (ICE), Confindustria, ABI, Unioncamere and RETE Imprese Italia, under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ministry for Economic Development.

Leading the mission is the Undersecretary for Economic Development, Massimo Vari; the MFA’s Principal Director for the Internationalisation of the Country System, Inigo Lambertini; the Ministry for Economic Development’s Counsellor for Internationalisation and President Designate of the ICE, Riccardo Monti; the President of Confindustria, Emma Marcegaglia; the Vice President of the Italian Banking Association, Guido Rosa; the Vice President of Unioncamere, Antonio Paoletti; and the President of Confartigianato, representing RETE Imprese Italia, Giorgio Guerrini.

The focus of this multi-sector mission is on industrial machinery, energy and renewables, infrastructure and banking. Taking part are 160 companies, 10 banks and banking groups and 23 business associations. The mission’s packed programme includes an institutional Forum, sector-analysis meetings, round tables and bilateral B2B meetings with Turkish counterparties.

Increasing trade and the complementarity of the Italian and Turkish economies

“This economic mission with all of the key actors in the internationalisation of our economic system testifies to the intensification, at all levels, of relations between our two countries”, stated Lambertini. “It also bears witness to the fruitful dynamism of relations between the Italian and Turkish business communities. And it is a starting point to further increase trade and the complementarity of our two economies”.

The strong points of the Turkish economy, which offers huge potential to Italian companies, are the huge size of the domestic market, its open approach to foreign investors, the country’s position as a crossroads between Europe, the Middle East, the Caucasus and central Asia, and of course its sound bilateral relations with Italy. Our country has been constant in its support of Turkey’s closer integration with Europe”.
