The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken steps to obtain information regarding the detention of five Italian activists near the village of Al Lubban al-Gharbiyye, in the West Bank, whilst they were with Palestinian farmers harvesting olives. The compatriots were stopped today as part of an operation that reportedly also involved other foreign nationals.
The Embassy of Italy in Tel Aviv and the Consulate-General of Italy in Jerusalem have approached the Israeli authorities to seek immediate clarification on the circumstances of the detention and to ensure the necessary consular assistance. According to the information available, the five compatriots are currently being held at a police station.
