The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, today received Marko Mihkelson, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia, at the Foreign Ministry.
Following the Deputy Minister’s last visit to Tallinn last year, the meeting provided an opportunity to further deepen discussions between Italy and Estonia on key bilateral issues, including economic cooperation, characterised by growing trade and significant opportunities in terms of connectivity infrastructure, the defence industry, energy and innovation.
The second part of the talks was devoted to the situation in Ukraine and the various aspects of support for Ukraine, including cyber support, countering disinformation and hybrid threats, with Italy currently holding the rotating Presidency of the Tallinn Mechanism. Italy and Estonia are also strongly committed to Ukraine’s reconstruction: Italy hosted the Ukraine Recovery Conference in 2025, and Estonia will host it in 2027. Deputy Minister Cirielli and Chairman Mihkelson also discussed their shared commitment to the issue of European Union enlargement and the prospects for candidate countries.
