Argentina – Buenos Aires holds debate on Antarctica

The round table “South of South through expeditions, discoveries and scientific research. A continuing story through the cooperation between Argentina and Italy” aims to promote knowledge of Antarctica. The event, scheduled on April 19 at the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) in Buenos Aires, is part of the “CUIA Days” (Italian Inter-University Consortium for Argentina) and of the Year of Italy in Latin America initiatives in the country. The aim of the meeting, which will provide historical records, scientific results and current and future activities to be carried out by Italian and Argentine universities, is to intensify actions aimed at increasing knowledge of Antarctica. The round table will be coordinated by Nicola Bottiglieri, Professor of Hispano-American literature at the University of Cassino and CUIA board member, Alberto Renzulli, Professor of Geology at the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo” and another member of the CUIA board, and Mariano Memolli, Argentinean Antarctic National Director, and the Director of the Argentine Antarctic Institute. The “Year of Italy in Latin America” project is sponsored by the Foreign Ministry in partnership with the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, Economic Development, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), the Conference of Italian University Rectors and with the contribution of many companies. The eighth edition of the “CUIA Days” (from 14 to 23 April), will fall within this context, with the aim of promoting and tightening the ties between the universities of the two countries, by initiating academic and scientific cooperation efforts falling within the scope of the organisation’s activities.
