An Open Doors Day will be held at the Farnesina on 12 October for the annual edition of Contemporary Art Day, the event now at its 15th edition organised to celebrate and disseminate Italian contemporary art. Promoted by the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums (AMACI) with the support of the MiBACT, the Day will see all the contemporary art museums and art collections – including the Farnesina Collection, for the fourth consecutive year – open their doors to the public free of charge. The Farnesina Building will open to the public on Saturday, 12 October, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., offering guided tours through the Ministry’s halls that host the contemporary art collection thanks to the collaboration of volunteers from the Touring Club Italiano. The Farnesina Collection consists of over 470 works by more than 200 high-profile artists of the Italian art history of the Novecento, conceded on loan for use by artists, art gallery owners, foundations and museums.
As every year, Contemporary Art Day will also be celebrated abroad with the aim of promoting the Italian art sector in the world. Thanks to the Protocol of Understanding signed between the AMACI and the MAECI, from 7 to 12 October, Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes will organise events, debates, presentations and exhibitions focused on the theme of contemporary art culture, including the whole art production “system” in Italy. Thus, the events will not only include artists and their works but also producers, curators, installers, museum directors, critics, art magazines and books, which will tell the world the story of the “system” of contemporary art in Italy.
