Head of the Diplomatic Protocol of the Republic

Bruno Antonio Pasquino

Born on 12 February 1964 in Reggio Calabria, where he attended the Liceo Classico “Tommaso Campanella”.

He obtained two degrees from the University of Messina: Law in 1986 and Political Science in 1989, both cum laude.

He entered the Diplomatic Career in February 1990.

From May 1990 to September 1991 he served at the Directorate General for Cultural Relations – Scientific and Technological Cooperation Section.

From 1991 to 1993 he attended the Ecole Nationale d’ Administration in Paris, “Cours étranger – Promotion Leon Gambetta”.

In November 1993 he was assigned to the Italian Embassy in Caracas as Second Secretary.

In October 1997 he served as First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Copenhagen, and later as Trade Counsellor and Head of Consular Affairs.

Back at the Foreign Ministry, in August 2001 he was appointed Head of the Secretariat of the Inspector General at the Inspector General’s Office.

From August 2003 to November 2006, he served as Consul General in Karachi (Pakistan).

In November 2006 he was appointed Chargé d’Affaires with Letters in Astana (Kazakhstan), and accredited to Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) as Ambassador. He was confirmed in the same post as Ambassador also in Astana from August 2008.

In June 2011, after returning to the Foreign Ministry in Rome, he was appointed Head of the Emergency and Humanitarian Operations Unit of the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation.

In January 2012 he was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary.

In August 2013 he was appointed Diplomatic Advisor to the Ministry of Economic Development.

As of April 2015 he was Commissioner General and Commissioner of the Italian Government for EXPO Milano 2015.

On 13 November 2017 he was appointed Ambassador to Iraq.

As of December 2019 he served at SAIPEM S.p.a. as Corporate Head of International Public Affairs.

He has been Head of the Diplomatic Protocol of the Republic since 6 October 2022.

In 2022 he was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. He was also awarded the Venezuelan, Danish and Kazakh Orders of Merit.

He is married to Christina and father of Anne-Sophie and Sarah-Louise. He is passionate about history, archaeology and football.
