Name Directorate General for Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Asia and Oceania
Competence and Tasks The Directorate-General for Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania is responsible for the following tasks:
a) oversees processes and matters relating to global governance;
b) addresses issues relating to international regulation in the energy and environment sectors;
c) ensures, in consultation with the other competent Directorates-General, the coherence of sustainability policies;
d) tackles issues relating to international organizations and institutions responsible for the matters referred to in the previous points;
e) promotes, in agreement with the other competent Directorates General, bilateral relations of a political, economic, cultural, and other nature, conducts related negotiations, and is responsible for the analysis, definition, and implementation of diplomatic action with the countries of Central, South, and Southeast Asia, the Far East and Oceania, Central and South America, and sub-Saharan Africa, without prejudice to the responsibilities of the Directorate General for Political Affairs and Security and any amendments that may be made with respect to individual countries or groups of countries identified by Ministerial decree;
f) ensures Italy’s participation in the activities of regional international cooperation and organizations relating to the geographical areas referred to in point e).
