Minister Plenipotentiary Luigi Maria Vignali
Born in Rome (RM) on 19 September 1962
Graduated in Political Science from the University of Rome in 1987.
He entered the diplomatic career in 1989 and was assigned to the Directorate General for Personnel; in 1992, he was appointed to the Permanent Representation of Italy to the E.E.C. in Brussels.
In 1996, he became Consul General in Jeddah, then in 2000 he returned to Rome to work as Head of the Competitions Department in the Directorate General for Personnel. In 2004, he returned to the Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels, as Adviser in charge of general coordination.
In 2007, he was called back to Rome to serve as Head of the Coordination Unit of the Secretariat General.
In 2014, he became Counsellor for International Relations to the CEO of Finmeccanica spa. He then worked on the promotion of international sports events at the Directorate General for Country Promotion.
In 2015, he held the position of Independent Evaluation Body of the Ministry and simultaneously served as Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority.
In 2016, he was appointed Deputy Director General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies and member of the Commission for International Adoptions.
Since May 2017, he has been Director General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies.
