Giorgio Silli

Sottosegretario Giorgio Silli

Born in Florence, Tuscany, in 1977.

He graduated with honours in Political Science and International Relations. Since he was young he worked as manager in several manufacturing companies, both in the technical and commercial sections. Such circumstance has led him to spend long periods abroad. In 2020, he obtained a master’s degree in Space Policies and Institutions at SIOI. He is fluent in five languages, including Russian.

From 2009 to 2014, he was appointed as assessor for EU and Immigration Policies in the Municipality of Prato. During his term as assessor he was also secretary of ACTE, the Association of European Textile Communities. For five years, he has been president of the Immigration Commission of ANCI, as substitute of mayor Cenni. He was also member of the Committee for Unaccompanied Foreign Minors at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies. In October 2011, he was appointed as political advisor to the then Minister of Culture. Since September 2014, he has been member of the Committee of Regions in Brussels, first as effective member, then as a substitute. In 2014, he was elected as city councillor in the Municipality of Prato.

In 2018, he was elected as member of the Chamber of Deputies. As member of the Italian Parliament, he was member of the Permanent Commission I (constitutional affairs, interior affairs, Presidency of the Council of Ministers) and of the Parliamentary Committee monitoring the implementation of the Schengen Agreement, supervising the activities of Europol and monitoring and controlling in matters of migrations. Since May 2019, he has been member of the Permanent Commission of Defence. In June 2021, he was elected secretary of the Chamber of Deputies.

On 31 October 2022, he was appointed Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

He is Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He lives in Rome, is married and has a daughter.
