Bulgaria: architectural model-making, exhibition on the theme of tolerance

Six million burnt matches and 17 years went into the construction of a model of the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Rila, Bulgaria’s most important and famous: and this is only one of many attractions offered by an architectural model exhibition entitled “Tolerance: a beacon for faith and life” that opened at the national archaeological museum in Sofia on Tuesday 10 January and runs through 30 January.

The exhibition received the high patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the support of the Mayor of Sofia, and is endorsed by the highest Christian, Jewish and Islamic religious authorities.

The “Osservatore Romano” reported on the initiative after meeting with Italian Ambassador to Bulgaria Stefano Benazzo, who envisioned and organized it, and to which he personally contributed along with three Bulgarian model makers.
