Italy-Arab Emirates – Terzi-Bin Zayed meeting at the foreign ministry

There are “highly significant prospects for industrial, financial and investments”, Minister Giulio Terzi said at the end of a meeting with his Arab Emirates counterpart Abdullah Bin Zayed, recalling the solid cultural collaboration the two nations enjoy and the opening of the first school for courses in Italian in that Arab country.

Sheikh Bin Zayed said his country was “proud” of its bilateral relationswith Italy, adding that the two countries could work together on major international challenges such as the financial downturn by “exchanging experiences”.

The two ministers confronted pressing international security concerns such as Syria, the Iranian nuclear programme and Liby’s democratic transition. Terzi explained that Italy had expressed “great interest” in “collaborating” on these questions “in the context of the Gulf Cooperation Council”, where the United Arab Emirates was “an especially important player”.

Sheikh Bin Zayed voiced deep concern over the violence in Syria, and the hope of gaining the international community’s support for the Arab League initiative that the Arab diplomats plan to present to the UN Security Council “within the next two weeks”.
