Immigration, exile and the construction of identity, starting with the memory of the communities who emigrated to America. Questions that are keenly felt in Argentina, as they are in Italy. And which are now the subject of the concert “In the Blood: dreams of water and landfall”.
Virginia Innocenti takes centre stage
The performance features the Argentine actress and singer Virginia Innocenti, accompanied by Diego Vila. It will be held on 14, 21 and 29 April 2012 at the “Parque de la Memoria – Monumento a las Victimas del Terrorismo de Estado” and is being supported by the Italian Consulate General in Buenos Aires. The Park of Remembrance was chosen in view of its highly symbolic nature. It was conceived to foster debate and reflection on issues such as human rights, state-sponsored terrorism and the construction of a collective memory through art.
Memorandum of understanding on documentation concerning the desaparecidos
In 2011, the Italian and Argentine foreign ministries signed a Memorandum of Understanding. It envisaged collaboration by the two countries to identify those responsible for crimes against the population in the Latin American state during the military dictatorship in power from 1976 to 1983. In response to a request by the Argentine authorities, Italy will provide papers held by the Italian diplomatic-consular network in Argentina that concern the desaparecidos.
This input from Italy will help rebuild the country’s historic memory of dramatic pages in Argentine history and will help the justice system identify those responsible for crimes against humanity.
