Italy and Romania are linked by a historic cultural bond, as well as by very strong economic relations. This bond was explained by the Italian Ambassador to Bucharest, Mario Cospito, in an interview for “Pasaport Diplomatic”, a programme broadcast on Romania’s DIGI24 satellite TV channel. The programme showcases the work of the diplomatic community in Romania with a view to increasing citizens’ understanding of the role of diplomacy in their everyday lives.
The episode dedicated to the role of the Italian Embassy in Romania was structured in three parts, two of which filmed in the Residence. The first part, introduced by an overview of Italy’s beauty and treasures, consisted of an interview with the Ambassador, with the focus on Italian-Romanian relations, both bilateral and at Community level. The emphasis was on economic relations and commercial collaboration.
The second part, filmed in Bucharest’s luxury shopping district, featured a visit to two shops that sum up the essence of “System Italy”. The Cioccogelateria Venchi, which sells chocolate and ice cream and has opened its first shop outside Italy precisely in Bucharest; and the Ferrari Forza Rossa concept store.
The third and last part of the programme was devoted to the highlights of the Italian cultural heritage. An interview with Octav Boicescu, head of the Department of European Art at the Romanian National Art Gallery, was followed by a conversation, in Italian, between Ambassador Cospito and the internationally renowned Romanian soprano, Mariana Nicolesco.
