Italy–Japan Foundation: Conference on Alessandro Valignano, Florence

On 13 June 2012 the Uffizi Library in Florence hosted a conference on Alessandro Valignano, the Jesuit priest who in the 16th century embraced Japanese culture to a degree unprecedented for the time. He learned Japan’s language, customs and traditions and for the first time described the country, until then legendary, in realistic terms. Read more, in Italian.
