Syria: Italian hospital for refugees opens in Jordan

A field hospital set up by the Italian Cooperation in northern Jordan, at the border with Syria, to provide assistance to the thousands of refugees who have fled Syria in recent months was inaugurated today.

Hospital managed in collaboration with Jordanian health service

The facility is located in the city of Mafraq and was set up in collaboration with the Italian Civil Defence and Associazione Nazionale Alpini following a previous dispatch of medical kits to Syria and Lebanon. Italian ambassador to Jordan Francesco Fransoni said the hospital would be managed in collaboration with the Jordanian health service.

Jordan is currently hosting a very large number of Syrian refugees. According to Prime Minister Fayez Taraneh no less than 130,000 refugees have arrived in that country since the outbreak of the hostilities 16 months ago.
