Under-secretary Dassu’ visits Chile

Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Marta Dassù visited Chile on 4 and 5 October for political meetings with the Chilean authorities and to participate in a high level seminar organized by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in preparation for the EU-ECLAC summit to be held on 26-27 January 2013 in Santiago. During her visit the Under-Secretary also delivered the opening address at a workshop on infrastructure held at SOFOFA (Chilean Manufacturers Federation), whose participants included a delegation of Italian sector firms sent from Italy by ANCE (Italian builders association), and joined her Chilean counterpart in opening an international Community of Democracies seminar on poverty, development and democracy, organised by Chile and Italy as co-chairs of the related work group.


Dassù also held bilateral meetings with Minster for Foreign Affairs of Chile Alfredo Moreno and Executive Secretary of ECLAC Alicia Barcena. She then met with Minister for Public Works and possible presidential hopeful Laurence Golborne, and attended an an official luncheon at the Moneda hosted by President of the Republic Sebastian Piñera. Finally, the Under-Secretary signed an additional protocol allowing the entry into force of an extradition treaty and visited an exhibit of Etruscan/Roman artifacts mounted in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of Italy and Italian Cultural Institute with pieces from the archaeological museums of Florence, Siena and Arezzo.
