Syria: tents and generators from Italy for the refugees

New help from Italy for the Syrian refugees. A emergency humanitarian flight has airlifted 8 generators, 100 multi-purpose tents with heat-cold insulation for the winter, and 2000 blankets to Amman. The supplies, for Syrian refugees currently in refugee camps in Jordan, were delivered to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), which will distribute them over the next few days.

Support amounting to €7.5 million

This aid should be added to that already provided in recent months. After a first dispatch of two emergency kits with enough medical products to treat 100,000 patients for three months, Italy then donated its first field hospital to Jordan. Since 26 August 2012 the hospital, in the Zaatari refugee camp, has treated more than 10,500 patients. The Italian Government has also supported the work of other international organisations involved in humanitarian assistance in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey, for a total of about €7.5 million already delivered and €20 million earmarked for 2013, through bilateral and multilateral emergency funding channels.
