The Carabinieri illustrate their international work to foreign Ambassadors in Italy

On Friday 14 June 2013 foreign Ambassadors accredited in Italy will visit the “Palidoro” command of the Carabinieri, which includes the Motorised and Specialist Units. The visit, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Command of the Carabinieri, will focus on the international work carried out by the force, most notably:

– their participation in peace missions and their training initiatives for local forces

– restoring security in unstable regions, as a first step to institution-building

– protecting diplomatic and consular missions, and

– the investigations conducted by the Forensic science laboratories of the Carabinieri Force (RACIS).

As a branch of the Italian military, the Carabinieri take part in all of our country’s missions abroad and enjoy the esteem of the international community.

Support in disaster situations, terrorist attacks and incidents at home and abroad.

The welcoming addresses will be given by the Commander in Chief, General Leonardo Gallitelli, and the Head of Diplomatic Protocol of the Italian Republic, Stefano Ronca. They will be followed by speeches by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Lapo Pistelli, and senior Carabinieri Officers.

The visit will include a film on the work of the Forensic science laboratories (RACIS). RACIS operates both in Italy and abroad, often in support of foreign governments, as was the case with the Tsunami in Thailand. On that occasion, RACIS provided a “Disaster Victim Identification” (DVI) team. Set up after the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York in September 2001, this highly specialised unit intervenes in cases of disasters, terrorist attacks and other accidents or incidents. It is composed of medics, biologists, chemists, psychologists, fingerprint analysts and photographers.
