DEI/Sole 24 Ore – 11 September 2013: latest news from around the world. Greece: railway privatisation under way

The Greek authorities have begun work on the important dossier of the privatisation of railway operating services. The plans envisage the privatisation of the rail traffic and services company (Trainose) and of the network maintenance company (Rosco).

Both companies are currently 100% controlled by TAIPED, the fund overseeing the privatisations. The procedures for the two tenders, which are closely related in functional terms, will take place more or less simultaneously to ensure that investors have clear information available when evaluating whether or not to take part.

Candidates will be shortlisted using criteria such as soundness of financial and other assets, with selection procedures expected to be completed by the end of September. A second stage of the tender will then begin, in which the shortlisted candidates will submit binding bids to purchase 100% of the two separate companies.

Ownership of the railway infrastructure, currently in the hands of Organismos Sidirodromon Ellados (OSE), will be transferred to the state, with which Trainose and/or the new operators will enter into leasing contracts. The terms of these contracts have not yet been drawn up. (Source: infoMercatiEsteri). Read more, in Italian.
