For the first time ever, the Florentine master’s “Annunciation” will be on display for 4 months at the Museum of Israel in Jerusalem, thanks to the support of the Embassy of Italy in Tel Aviv,
Awaiting Boticelli’s “Annunciation” is a “splendid wall” in one of the most important halls of Jerusalem’s Museum of Israel. It is there that, starting on Tuesday 17 September, the nearly 6 m x 3 m painting will be exhibited for the first time ever in Israel. Botticelli’s “mission” in Israel, according to Italian Ambassador to Israel Francesco Maria Talò, was made possible by “the close coordination of the Italian and Israeli ministries and Culture Ministers Massimo Bray and Limor Livnat”.
The fresco on display for 4 months
“Botticelli’s fresco will remain in Israel for a period of 4 months, and it is the first time that such a major Renaissance masterpiece will have been exhibited here”. And it was no accidental choice by President of the Florence museum circuit Cristina Acidini: not only because it has “all the aesthetic Renaissance elements, from perspective to draping, but also because the story it tells took place on this land. This is a very important connection”.
