Turkey: trade deficit reaches 57 billion dollars
In the first 8 months of 2013 the Turkish trade deficit grew by 18%, up to 67 billion USD as compared with 57 billion in the same period of 2012. Italian trade with Turkey was 37% of the total, placing Italy as Turkey’s 4th trade partner after Germany, Russia and China. Turkey’s imports from Italy, down by 5.9% compared with January-August of 2012, totaled 8.4 billion USD, with exports of 4.4 billion (up 7.3%). Main import items include automobiles, tractors and parts, machinery and mechanical equipment, iron and steel products, clothing and accessories, while principal exports include fuel and mineral oils, machinery and mechanical equipment, precious and semiprecious stones, precious metals, pearls and costume jewelry (infoMercatiEsteri).
