Pakistan: ENI interested in shale gas and offshore deep-water exploration
Pakistan’s Minister for Oil and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi, and ENI’s Chief Executive Officer, Paolo Scaroni, met recently in Islamabad to review the company’s operations in the country. ENI is the biggest international oil and gas company in Pakistan, with an investment of over 1.5 billion dollars and about 57,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The two parties discussed the need to increase domestic gas production, including by exploiting Pakistan’s shale gas and through deep-water exploration. The minister illustrated the measures adopted by the Pakistani government to attract investment and confirmed its intention to adopt new measures where necessary. The two sides also stressed the importance of further cooperation between ENI and Pakistani energy companies, first and foremost OGDCL colossus, which controls most of the on- and off-shore exploration concessions.
