Made in Italy: Government approves agri-food export bill

On a proposal by Premier and Minister for Agriculture Enrico Letta, the Council of Ministers today approved a bill for the support of Made in Italy, introducing provisions for the simplification, competitiveness and reorganisation of the sector, associated with the 2014 Stability Law. The announcement was made at the end of a meeting of the Council. “Among the main innovations”, the note reads, “is the creation of an agri-food Made in Italy brand that will contribute to making it easier for consumers around the world to recognise authentic Italian products. The brand will be private, optional and in line with European directives, and will be capable of making a decisive contribution to the fight against fakes and “Italian-sounding” products, which cost Italian exports approximately 60 billion euro. The same provisions introduce a tax credit for countries that invest in logistics and distribution infrastructures for Italian products abroad”.
