The Presidency of the Republic of Brazil issued a decree authorising Intesa Sanpaolo to operate directly on the Brazilian financial market, making the Turin-based institution the first Italian bank active in Brazil for commercial, investment and corporate banking activities. It will also offer assistance and consulting on bilateral investment activities. Its new headquarters will also cover the representation activities the group already offers in Sao Paolo. The banking institution has been developing solid relations over recent years with Brazilian financial firms and institutions, concluding numerous commercial and financial operations that included Banco do Brasil’s secondary offerings (2009) and Petrobas’ issuance of benchmark bonds in euros and sterling (2011).
