Italy and United Arab Emirates: Mogherini and Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan meet at the Farnesina

The serious crises in the Mediterranean and the Gulf region were among the questions on the agenda at the meeting in the Farnesina between Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini and her opposite number from the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan.

Libya: effort needed to support national dialogue, says Mogherini

Libya is one such crisis region. The country “needs to regain stability for its own sake and that of the Mediterranean and the region”, underscored Mogherini. “Italy and the international community must make every effort to help Libya find the right road to rebuild its institutions and national dialogue”.

Deep concern over death penalties in Egypt

Turning to Egypt, Minister Mogherini expressed “deep concern over the death penalties announced in recent weeks, on which I hope that the authorities will provide some signals”. The Emirates Foreign Minister noted that “Egypt is going through a difficult transition but is proceeding in the right direction. With the reduction in terrorist attacks, for example, and the security forces’ ability to manage the situation”. However, he added, “there are still political and economic challenges to be tackled and we all have a responsibility for a better future for Egypt”.
