Nigeria – EU coordination for girls’ release, urges Mogherini

Proposal to be formalised at Monday’s Foreign Affairs Council: coordination needed, not a leading role for any one country

“Our interest is not so much seeing any one country play a leading role, but results: the release of the girls abducted in Nigeria”. This was the comment by Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini, who will propose a “European coordination” at Monday’s Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Brussels. Paris and London have already offered to help the Nigerians find the hostages.

“At the Council in Brussels we’ll submit a proposal for the EU, as such, to coordinate any efforts by our countries to obtain the girls’ release. We think it’s useful for our countries to speak and work in the most coordinated manner possible”. Minister Mogherini was speaking to journalists in the margins of the EU-Balkans Ministerial in Thessaloniki.
