Western Australia Premier Colin Barnett announced the approval of the Airport Link project, a railway connection between the centre of Perth and the city’s airport. The project has an estimated value of 2.2 billion Australian dollars (approx. €1.54 billion) and calls for the construction of 8.5 km of new railway that includes an 8 km long underground tunnel. The project also envisages the construction of three new railway stations (domestic terminal, international terminal, bus station). The Project Definition Plan is to be presented over the next two weeks and the call for tenders within the year. Work is set to begin in 2016.
