There are many diplomats who are also writers. One of the skills required of diplomats is precisely the ability to write reports, analyses, summaries and press releases, which are all part of the predictable daily routine of every diplomat. Through writing a very close relationship is generated that often leads to the publication of books. It is often said that “diplomats hide with pen in hand”, and there are, by now, over a thousand books that have been published by diplomats.
The professional experience and the urge to write
Guest of the third segment of “Diplomazia e dintorni”, which will air on 28 October on Radio Luiss (http://www.radioluiss.it) from 20:00 to 21:00, will be diplomat Domenico Vecchioni. One of Italy’s most prolific diplomat-writers who concluded his career as Ambassador to Cuba, Vecchioni has published no less than 23 books. The programme will offer an opportunity to examine the link between professional experience and the urge to write, beyond the confines of the working environment.
