After completing the Marmara underwater railway line connection its European and Asian shores, Istanbul is ready to launch a call for tenders for the construction of a series of railway infrastructure projects with magnetic levitation trains. The project will start with 8 lines, equally subdivided between the Asian and European sides, in the central and suburban areas of the metropolis. The operational project is the fruit of a 2011 study commissioned by the city of Istanbul and regarding optimization of urban logistics that will allow this innovative railway network to more effectively and efficiently alleviate traffic congestion while at the same time reducing the need to extend the much costlier underground network to suburban areas.
