What better means than music to spread new ideas of freedom, independence and love of country? The operas written by Giuseppe Verdi between 1842 and 1849 had a strong patriotic component and were received enthusiastically by the public. Offering an occasion for reflection on the subject will be a conference entitled “Music and the reawakening of patriotism in the nations of Europe and the Mediterranean in the 19th century: the role of music and revolutionary and patriotic movements Italy” at Montreal’s École de musique Vincent-d’Indy (salle Marie-Stéphane – 628, chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine).
