Workshops and seminars, Italy promotes EXPO 2015 in the EU

At less than 48 hours from the opening of the Milan EXPO, the Italian Permanent Mission to the European Union continued its efforts at promotion, organising a seminar at the Brussels headquarters of the Organization of ACP States (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific).

Expo, sustainable development and international cooperation

An audience of diplomats, businesspersons and representatives of research centres and the civil society listened to a panel of experts discuss the EXPO, sustainable development and international cooperation. A broad range of projects aimed at agricultural development and nutrition were presented, while discussions also included the role of women and defence of children. The Italian government’s commitment was also foregrounded with the presentation of the Charter of Milan, the intangible legacy of EXPO 2015.

The conference, opened by ambassador Stefano Sannino and ACP secretary-general Patrick Gomes, also saw the participation of the directors of European Cooperation (SEVCOO), Save the Children and Women for Expo.

“Expo Milano 2015 and the global food security debate “

The Italian Permanent Mission in Brussels also hosted a workshop on 15 April last, entitled “EXPO Milan 2015 and the global food security debate”. Discussions included sustainable agriculture from the point of view of global governance, civil society and prosperity, private sector and global market. Participants included ambassador Sannino, first vice president of the Agriculture Commission Erik Andrieu, president of the Committee of the Regions Markku Markulla, permanent relateur for EXO2015 Paolo De Castro,  honorary president of the Feltrinelli Foundation and scientific coordinator of the Expo Laboratory Salvatore Veca, and director-general of FoodDrinkEurope and member of the EU scientific committee for EXPO2015 Mella Frewen.
