The Directorate General for Cooperation Development approved a one-million EUR voluntary emergency contribution to support food assistance interventions on behalf of the Iraqi population left vulnerable by the crisis in that country.
“Emergency Assistance to Populations affected by the Iraq crisis”
Italy’s contribution is earmarked for the activities included in the project known as “Emergency Assistance to Populations affected by the Iraq crisis”, which provides food assistance to 1,8 million people and, in particular, is intended to support the purchase and distribution of foodstuffs for vulnerable families.
997 tonnes of food for families
The Italian contribution will make it possible to purchase 997 tonnes of foodstuffs to go into family food packages containing flour, rice, bulgur, pasta, lentils, oil, beans, sugar and salt, for 76,374 persons. The project is part of a broader Italian Cooperation humanitarian intervention plan in Iraq valued, as of 2015, at over 9 million EUR.
