“The strong and well-established links between Italy and Switzerland also encompass scientific cooperation”. The point was underscored to il Velino/Pei News by Ambassador Mauro Moruzzi, head of the international relations division at the Swiss Confederation’s State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). Ambassador Moruzzi was commenting on Italian-Swiss relations in the margins of the meeting of scientific attachés taking place on 13 and 14 October 2015 at the Farnesina.
“This is a natural bond that developed at the grass-roots level”, underscored the Ambassador. “Indeed, the institutional element came later. Today we have an on-going dialogue that reflects not just the quantity but also the quality of our links. We are very keen to continue on this path, especially in view of the significant possibilities of growth both for Switzerland and for Italy. Our two countries are complementary and the results are clear for all to see. We meet periodically to take a ‘snapshot’ of the situation and address concrete problems by seeking to identify the best solution together”.
Looking to the future, Ambassador Moruzzi is convinced that work is proceeding well at the technical level. More work needs to be done, however, on how best to communicate the progress that is being made to the Italian and Swiss people. “We need to make a greater effort to ensure that the successes achieved in Italy and Switzerland are given the visibility they deserve”.
This is the first time the Swiss ambassador with responsibility for international research activity has been invited to the science attachés event. An event which, in his view, is “excellent. Italy is fortunate to have such an extensive network of well-qualified specialist science attachés”.
