Georgia: TI Sparkle, Silknet and Turkcell sign accord on new IP point in Tbilisi

Telecom Italia Sparkle signed an agreement with Silknet, the main supplier of telecommunications services in Georgia, and Turkish telecommunications company Turkcell for the creation of the first Tier 1 PoP access point in the Caucasus. Specifically, a data centre will be established in Tbilisi connected to the TI Sparkle Seabon Global IP fibre optics network by ground links passing through Istanbul and Frankfurt, which will allow the three firms to link Europe, the Caucasus and the region including the Caspian Sea, Middle East and Central Asia. At technical level, the new link will allow the three firms to boost their respective networks by offering better landline and mobile phone service along with new market prospects. The partnership is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2016.
