This 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and China, “ahead of the 50th anniversary in 2020, provides further stimulus to deepen and broaden bilateral dialogue and cooperation and, with a view to the reciprocal benefits, to make a pro-active contribution to strengthening international prosperity, stability, peace and security”. This was Minister Paolo Gentiloni’s in “especially warm and friendly” message to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the resumption of bilateral diplomatic relations. Within the framework of relations marked by the “increasingly capillary diffusion of commercial, cultural, tourism and scientific exchanges”, “particular appreciation” was expressed “for China’s strengthening of investments in Italy and their gradual diversification in a variety of productive sectors”. Minister Gentiloni also underscored the “propitious moment in bilateral relations” that “could profit from the objectives laid out in the 3-year Plan of Action adopted in 2014 by the two Heads of Government and our joint efforts on behalf of European Union/China relations. That commitment will work to foster Italy and China’s convergence on major global themes to make common contribution to peace and world governance within the United Nations and other international organisations and forums such as ASEM and the G20”.
