Agreement on Government of National Accord signed yesterday in Skhirat, Morocco
Yesterday, 17 December, was “a day of hope”, declared Minister Gentiloni, who was present at the signing ceremony along with Martin Kobler, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Libya. “Italy is ready to do its part to give the country stability and security”.
The signing of the agreement was defined by Minister Gentiloni as a first, decisive step. Speaking to the Libyan delegates, he continued that “the future of Libya is in your hands and we are counting on you. We’re on the side of all those who have decided to accept the compromise”, affirmed Gentiloni, according to whom “the priority now is to broaden the basis of consensus to the new government”.
Rome Ministerial Meeting for Libya
Yesterday’s agreement comes four days after the Ministerial Meeting for Libya that took place in Rome. The joint communiqué adopted at the end of the meeting “is not just a piece of paper”, reiterated the Minister, “but a solemn commitment to heling the Libyan people”.
The Special Representative, Kobler, thanked Minister Gentiloni publicly for Italy’s role and defined the Rome meeting as “the most important international event” in reaching the agreement signed yesterday.
