Tirana – Holocaust Memorial Day marked by Rome film

On Wednesday, in commemoration of the Holocaust Memorial Day, the Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana together with the Tirana Youth Centre, will screen the documentary “Oro Macht Frei” (“Gold Will Set You Free”). The film, directed by Jeffrey X. Bonna, produced by Joel Markel and Catherine Campbell and written by Ms Campbell herself, narrates the experience of Rome’s Jews during the Nazi occupation of the city from September 1943 to June 1944. Interweaving the testimonies of Roman Jews with research carried out by well-known academics, including Susan Zuccotti, Alexander Stille and Liliana Picciotto, the film seeks to stimulate the audience to make a personal reflection on the Holocaust in Italy. Professor Nevila Nika will speak at the screening.
