The Italian diplomatic network in Algiers commemorates Umberto Eco: twenty days after the great writer’s death, the Italian embassy in Algeria and the Italian Institute of Culture pay tribute to Umberto Eco, with an event called ‘Echi di Eco’ (Echoes of Eco) on Friday. Algerian writers and journalists will read and discuss excerpts from his writings and interviews, such as “The Island of the Day Before”,”Diario minimo”, “Misreadings” and “On Western Superiority”. The commemoration was organised by the well-known journalist Ameziane Ferhani, writer of the weekly column ‘Arts et Lettres’ in one of the most important local newspapers, El Watan.

On Monday, the Institute will screen the film “The Name of the Rose” by Jean-Jacques Annaud, which will be presented and commented on by Ahmed Bejaoui, Algerian film critic and the Culture Minister’s cultural advisor for cinema.
