Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni is in Washington to attend the Nuclear Security Summit taking place today and tomorrow. The Summit – the fourth after Washington (2010), Seoul (2012), The Hague (2014) and the last, furthering the process launched by President Barack Obama in his historic speech in Prague in 2009 – aims at promoting worldwide consensus on the need to tackle the challenges posed by nuclear security, with a special focus on the threat of nuclear terrorism. The Summit has contributed to creating new security conditions that facilitate making progress in the area of non-proliferation and disarmament towards a “safer world for all”.
Present at the Summit are the representatives of 52 States and 4 International Organisations who will adopt a conclusive statement on the results obtained up to now.
