Italian opera exhibition ‘Sudamericanamente’ opens in Peru

“Sudamericanamente – The long season of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome in Latin America” is the title of an exhibition organized by the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) of Lima, to be held in the Peruvian capital until Apr. 16. The exhibition was produced by the Historical Archives of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome for the Year of Italy in Latin America. It presents a wealth of information on the success of Italian concert and opera music abroad, especially the tours made by the Teatro Costanzi from 1900 to 1928. “Sudamericanamente” highlights the close ties existing between Italy and Latin American countries. It expands on the glorious history of the Italian lyrical production, narrates the fascinating opera machine behind each production, recounts the journeys by steamer made by famous tenors and presents original documents, drawings, sketches, costumes, memorabilia, newspaper articles, and recordings. The exhibition includes a section dedicated to Peru and to its great tenors, from Alejandro Granda to Luis Alva and Juan Diego Flórez. The ievent takes place alongside the 9th International Opera Festival “Alejandro Granda”. The Italian Institute of Culture will take part with two events to pay tribute to the great Italian opera composers: “Viva Rossini!” and the “Italian Opera Gala”.
