Once again this year Italian state and recognised private schools abroad will be able to submit applications, by 20th April, to join the “UNESCO Associated Schools”. Enrolments increased in the 2014/2015 academic year, and so far seven Italian schools abroad have joined the international network. The UNESCO schools include: state schools in Addis Ababa, Asmara and Barcelona and recognised private schools: “Scuola Italiana Roma” in Algiers, “Enrico Mattei” in Casablanca, “Italo Svevo” in Cologne and “Arturo Dell’Oro” in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. The network was created in Paris in 1953 with the main aim of strengthening the commitment of new generations to promote the values that inspired the United Nations. The schools are required to set up educational projects on subjects such as human rights, education for sustainable development, protection and enhancement of the cultural and linguistic heritage, tangible and intangible, education for cultural tourism, intercultural education, development and promotion of education for peace and citizenship.
