Italy-Mexico – Making an effort to boost cooperation

The Italian Ambassador to Mexico, Alessandro Busacca, is continuing his meetings with the country’s institutions to take stock of multi-sectoral bilateral relations and evaluate how best to implement them. The diplomat attended a meeting with the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Mexican Congress. Chaired by Victor Georgiana, the meeting was a useful opportunity to discuss the many areas of cooperation and exchange between the two countries and gave new impulse to Italian-Mexican inter-parliamentary cooperation. The presence of many lawmakers and officials of the Mexican Parliament turned the meeting into an opportunity for a comprehensive exchange of views on major aspects of the bilateral relationship. In particular, Ambassador Busacca stressed to the lawmakers and officials present the positive dynamics engendered by institutional meetings, the countries’ common understanding of several aspects of international cooperation, the growing interdependence between the two economies and, in general, Italy’s efforts in Mexico to promote culture and science. On the previous day, Ambassador Busacca had a meeting with the new Federal Commissioner of COFEPRIS (Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks), Julio Sánchez y Tepoz, to take stock of the relations between the two countries in the pharmaceutical industry and to discuss future cooperation initiatives. In particular, the new Commissioner expressed his willingness to meet with representatives of the Italian pharmaceutical companies operating in Mexico. The Ambassador recently also attended a meeting between the Heads of Mission of the European Union and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. The discussion focused on the developments and prospects for Mexico-EU relations and, during the meeting, Ambassador Busacca emphasised the importance of promoting cooperation in areas such as security, culture, science and technology.
