Baghdad – Humanitarian emergency in Iraq, Italy’s northern region support Yazidi community

Today marks the beginning of the 3-day series of institutional meetings of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region on the dramatic situation of the Yazidi community, an ethnic minority in Iraqi Kurdistan persecuted by the ISIS Islamic extremists. A delegation led by Vian Dakhil Saeed, an MP in the Federal Parliament of Iraq, will be received by a representative of the Italian Government. The mission will continue with a visit to the Council of Representatives, which will hold a presentation on the humanitarian emergency suffered by the Yazidi community in the area of Iraqi Kurdistan, which hosts three million displaced people. Contributions to the debate will be made by the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Debora Serracchiani, in addition to reports by Marzio Babille, an expert of the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS) and by Mary Pereira Mendes, the representative of UNICEF in Iraq.
