Paris – Italian architects return Hotel Galliffet to its past splendor

An exhibition devoted to the reconstruction of the two wings of the historic Hotel de Gallifret opens in Paris on June 13. The exhibition is promoted by the Italian Institute of Culture, which has its headquarters in the building. Nine architectural firms, selected by an international committee of experts formed by Cino Zucchi, Jean-Louis Cohen, Margherita Guccione and Pippo Ciorra, will take part in the exhibition, along with the department of architecture of Roma Tre University. The designs for rebuilding both wings will be on show. The “La Varenne” south wing, which was demolished in the ‘70s following severe water infiltrations, will now serve as accommodation for promoters of Italian excellence visiting Paris. The west wing, which has been incomplete since the Fifties, will host courses and offices. Directed by Matilde Cassani, Professor at Milan Polytechnic University and architect in residence since 2015 under the Promises of Art Project, the exhibition complies with the regulations set out in the 7th Arrondissement’s Conservation and Upgrade Plan.
