Amsterdam – Images and words, a double take on Naples with Silvio Perrella

The Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) in the Netherlands and its director, Carmela Callea, have promoted an event dedicated to one of Italy’s most beautiful cities: “A Double Take on Naples”. The event is scheduled for tonight at the IIC (Keizersgracht 564, Amsterdam). It features a photographic show drawn from Silvio Perrella’s book “Doppio Scatto. La città nascosta” (“A Double Take on Naples. The Hidden City”) and a meeting with the author. The event will be attended by Counsellor Tarek Chazli from the Italian Embassy in The Hague. The show will be open to the public until 14 July. The book juxtaposes two languages: photography and literature. The reader comes into contact with the city of Naples and at the same time will often be led to suspect that Naples is the emblem of all the cities whose history and nature have long been layered through the ebb and tide of the waves. A look embodying the narrating and descriptive voice guiding readers down stairs, into bays, narrow streets, landscapes and memories, and receding into silence any time the discovery is fully acquired by the reader-viewer.
