Sarajevo – Italian cooperation aid to Bosnia’s flooded areas

Zvornik is a city and municipality in the north-east of Bosnia Herzegovina. The area has been repeatedly struck by floods and Italy’s Cooperation Directorate has intervened with prevention and reconstruction projects. Zvornik, together with Srebrenica, Maglaj, Derventa, Orasje and Sanski Most, is one of the six Municipalities in which Italy is implementing a one million euro post-flood reconstruction project in favour of farmers, breeders and small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, only a few days ago Italy earmarked new contributions for Bosnia Herzegovina. On the occasion of the recent delivery of greenhouses, small agricultural machinery, beehives, animal feed and fertilizers to beneficiaries in the Municipality of Zvornik, Italian Ambassador Ruggero Corrias said: “The donation of agricultural equipment to 235 families of farmers struck by the floods closes the first phase of Italy’s support to the Municipality of Zvornik, with more than 70,000 euros. Over the next two months, we are planning to build a new bridge across the Sapna River, thus assuring a tangible contribution to the area’s economic development and to prevent the risk of possible new floods.” A note published on the website of the Italian Embassy in Sarajevo states that it is the second tranche of aid after last February’s donation of 124 tons of fertilizers and seeds to the farmers affected by the floods of 2014.
