A Chinese delegation from the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong University was in Italy on an official visit to establish academic cooperation agreements with the Sapienza University of Rome and the Politecnico di Milano.
The Chinese delegation, accompanied by Andrea Matta, Professor at the Politecnico and at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and President of the Sanhedrin of Italian Academicians in China, comprised JIANG Sixian (Chairperson of the University Council of Shanghai Jiao Tong University), ZHANG Weimin (Executive Dean, the USCSITU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry), MO Liangjin (Director, Division of International Cooperation & Exchange), MA Wenjun (Deputy Head, Department of Architecture) and MEI Yueli (Division of International Cooperation and Exchange).
Andrea Matta explained: “The general cooperation and student exchange agreement signed by the Chinese delegation with the Sapienza University of Rome is very promising, and will be followed by specific protocols between the various departments. A high level agreement was signed also with the Politecnico di Milano on PhDs and on a close scientific cooperation between the two universities”.
The agreements signed on 6 and 7 July reinforce and expand the exchanges between the Chinese and Italian academic and research institutions and are part of Italy’s firm determination to step up relationships with the biggest city in China.
Shanghai represents one of the Chinese scientific and economic districts Italy is paying special attention to, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation recently accredited a new Scientific Attaché at the General Consulate (Roberto Pagani).
In the framework of this growing interest, on 17 and 18 June, Shanghai hosted the second informal meeting of Italian businesses in China. Organized by the Embassy, with the cooperation of the Consulate General and of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, the meeting was attended by all the leading companies and most prominent Italian academic institutions present in China. At the meeting emphasis was placed on the importance of promoting a sound and balanced growth of industrial and scientific relations between Italy and China with a view to involving all sectors.
