The Italian orchestra Il Giardino Armonico will be travelling northwards to Norway to perform on the stage of the Nordland Festival in the town of Bodo on the 9th of August. Founded in Milan in 1985 by flutist Giovanni Antonini, who has been director of this orchestra since 1989, it specializes in the performance of ancient music, in particular baroque music. Backed by more than thirty years of experience it has performed in the most prominent concert halls all over the world and has cooperated with artists like Cecilia Bartoli and Viktoria Mullova. Its recordings have marked the history of ancient music and have been acknowledged by all the most important international awards. “Il Giardino Armonico is considered to be among the most energetic ancient music orchestras in the world, and given the status of stars they have in the world of concert organizers it is certainly a great honour to be able to present them to Norway here at the Nordland Musikkfestuke this summer”, said Festival Director, André Wallann Larsen. On stage there will also be Giovanni Sollima, cellist and composer, who has worked not only with classical music, but also with rock and electronic music and has cooperated with personalities from the music world like Patti Smith, Philip Glass and Yo-Yo Ma. The concert has been organized by Nordland Musikkfest in cooperation with the Italian Culture Institute of Oslo.
