Russia – In September Moscow to showcase Italy, from Raphael to Giuseppe Verdi

Italian painting and music will take centre stage in Russia’s September art scene. Thanks to the cooperation between Italian and Russian cultural institutions, with the support of the Italian Embassy, three major cultural events are scheduled to open in Moscow in September. The first, opening on Sept. 2 at the Pushkin Museum, is the exhibition “Raphael and the Poetry of a Face”, displaying an extraordinary selection of the works of the Urbino-born master from the Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Pitti’s Palatine Gallery, the National Gallery of the Marche and Bologna’s National Painting Gallery. The second event instead envisages the tour by the La Scala Theatre Orchestra at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre from Sept. 10 to 16, as part of the initiatives of the “Cherry Orchard Festival”. The tour is expected to represent a milestone in the relations between the two theatres, offering a programme designed around the music of Giuseppe Verdi, with the Messa da Requiem and a symphonic concert performance of “Simon Boccanegra”. Lastly on Sept. 20, the Pushkin Museum will open the exhibition “Piranesi. Masterpieces from Russian and Foreign Collections”, a broad retrospective on the famous Italian landscapist. The Italian Embassy invites users to visit its Facebook and Twitter (@ItalyinRussia) sites to receive an update on the “Italian September”.
