Vincenzo Grassi new Secretary General of the European University Institute

Ambassador Vincenzo Grassi is the new Secretary General of the European University Institute (EUI) of Florence. A long-standing expert of European Institutions, Ambassador Grassi was Head of the Department for European Policies at the Prime Minister’s Office, served in the Permanent Mission to the EU in Brussels and as Ambassador to Belgium. The European University Institute has acquired a level of absolute excellence in higher education around the world, offering doctorate programmes and post-graduate courses in Economics, History, Law and Political and Social Sciences. Born out of an idea of the six Founding Countries of the then European Community, the European University Institute is now supported by 22 EU Member States and by the European Commission. It also hosts the historic archives of the European Union and of the Court of Justice in the magnificent premises of Villa Salviati, a building that Italy made available in addition to other historic buildings in Florence and Fiesole. With a community of more than one thousand people from sixty different countries, the Institute represents one of the most dynamic and authoritative universities in Europe and in the world.
